Free Agent Watch: Robinson Tejada

In 2011, Tejada pitched just 7 1/3rd innings for the Big League Royals, so it doesn't make any sense statistically to evaluate that. However, he threw 45 innings in AAA, and has thrown 442 innings in his Major League career. Those can be evaluated. In triple A he had a PE of -1.27, all as a reliever. FanGraphs does not have the data necessary for minor leaguers to compute TR, but Tejada gave up just a .262 BABIP, left 75% of runners on base, and had a decent K/BB ratio at 2.87. The big scary thing was a 1.60 HR/9ip, and a high FIP at 4.87. For his major league career, he has a .68 PE, mainly as a reliever, but with 53 starts as well. His TR in the Majors is an okay 7.06, and he has just a 3.2 WAR in 7 seasons and 442 innings. His best year was in Kansas City when he posted a 1.6 WAR in 73.2 innings, mainly in the bullpen but also 6 starts. Tejada is 29, so its hard to expect he will get any better, he made 1.55 million in 2011, and that is way too much. I really think he would have to take a minor league contract or minimum salary before I would bring him in. I just don't think there is a lot of value.
